I have an theme, but no design. do you have any suggestions?

Not a problem! Before any carving is scheduled, Jeff meets with you to form a solid vision of your overall theme, features to include, and display of the final design using various design sketches and image references.

what locations do you serve?
For on-site sculpting, we work with clients within in the Connecticut area.
I have an arborist scheduled, what do i say when they arrive?

If you have a tree scheduled for removal by a professional, request at as much of the trunk to remain within the scope of your desired sculpture height. If unsure, the ideal height would be 8 - 10 feet. If rot/water is found within the trunk, ask the arborist to cut passed all decomposing sections. If needed, Jeff can be reached for coordination while the arborist crew is present.

My tree is pretty rotted. Do i need to use a tree or log from my property?

We can match any local tree species to your desired type if the trunk you have is beyond use. Also, if the carving is completed 'in-house' from a log we provide, a significant discount is honored for saving travel time.

Will my carving crack?

Short answer, yes.

After transferring your sculpture to a new environment, or shaping on-site for the first time, every carving will crack / check in some form.

Why? Fresh logs, (green wood) often used for carving, will see the heaviest transition due to high fiber saturation of water molecules in cell walls of the tree, and hygroscopic shrinkage, the fast drying phase of water leaving the wooden cells before they reshape.
But, this does not mean the sculpture is ruined or beyond repair. After the wood has acclimated in its final location for a few months, we return and repair substantial cracks found. For hands-on clients, maintenance guidelines can be provided for each specific carving as well.

what will happen to my carving outdoors?

Carvings left outside and open to direct sun exposure will become prone to fading and excessive drying out if neglected from proper annual maintenance. Most carvings typically require a weather-shield wood solution twice a year. Specific factors will depend on your location in the end.

We will provide a pdf of detailed instructions on proper care to preserve your specific sculpture for years to come.
